Creative Web Design & Build
Hannah Johnson Design is a creative business that specializes in hand-lettering, calligraphy, event design, and graphic design. She rents equipment, offers wedding design, custom inquiries, and illustrations for whatever event you may have.
This is a small creative business that was started by a friend and past colleague. She has always been an extremely talented calligrapher and hand-letterer which attracted her to the design industry. She asked for my help designing and building a website for her business.

Challenge
Hannah was wonderful to work with on this as she provided all the branding elements and digital design elements for her website. She even had a very clear idea of how she wanted the sitemap and flow. My challenge was creating a design that fit with her branding, and pages within the site that were cohesive with her messaging and still flowed usably. Also, just the pressure of creating something that the customer would be happy with was very important to me, especially when her passion and abilities were the main imagery and selling point. This site was also intended to be developed on a WIX platform, so designing around the parameter of their CMS and learning the new software was integral.

Design Solution
It was very important for me to deliver what the customer wanted. This was her new business built on her passion and art. I needed to make sure I created a site that highlighted her creations, and flowed well with her created branding and colors. I wanted the whole site to feel like an experience. I wanted every page to have some element of delight, that made you not want to leave. I incorporated a number of animations, but didn’t want to make them over-stimulating as well. I made sure that it felt very welcoming, and had the identity of the creator. This is a luxurious industry, I needed to make sure the site was clean, but also sold her ability well. I also was conscientious when developing to make sure on-page SEO and content would get crawled to create more leads for her. The development process would take place on WIX–which was a new experience, so learning that and training afterwards on site editing was important.

Overview
This was a fantastic project to work on. I wasn’t familiar with designing something so luxurious and beautiful. I have the customer to thank for all the beautiful graphics and elements for the website. It was really rewarding to be a part of someones passion come to life. I am used to designing for companies that sell equipment or a service, but not someone selling their passion and art. It was also great to work with another creative that could properly critique me, and help me create a website that would be successful for them.
